I was eager to conduct the client interview, as it was a valuable and essential part of the design process. The interview provided meaningful insight into the client's preferences, lifestyle, emotions, and expectations for the bedroom renovation. It also helped establish a clear understanding of the client's functional needs, aesthetic goals, and vision for creating a space that promotes comfort, relaxation, and well-being. The information gathered helped identify the client's functional needs, aesthetic preferences, and design priorities, ensuring that the proposed design solution aligns with both practical requirements and the desired atmosphere for the space while working within a budget of $800 to $1,000 BZD
The interior design focuses on the primary bedroom which currently serves as a space for relaxation, where she and her four-year-old child often unwind by watching television. However, the design goal is to transform the room into a peaceful, restorative retreat by removing the television and replacing it with thoughtfully selected nature-inspired artwork that encourages relaxation and mindfulness.
The design will incorporate a calming color palette of camel, muted sage, olive green, toasted almond, and sandy beige in accent throws and pillows to create a warm, inviting, and tranquil environment. A nature inspired decor will also be positioned strategically in one corner. These earthy tones will promote a sense of comfort while adding visual depth and sophistication while introducing a subtle connection to nature, warmth and richness and enhances the room's overall serenity.
One of the primary design challenges is the oversized clothing closet, which makes the room feel congested and limits the available floor space. Additionally, the current dresser provides little functional value and has become a surface for unnecessary clutter. To improve both functionality and aesthetics, the plan is to replace these pieces with a custom-built wall closet with warm motion lighting that maximizes the room's vertical space while providing well lit, organized storage and greater visibility of clothing options.
The exposed ceiling beams currently give the room an unfinished appearance. Covering the beams will create a cleaner, more polished, and contemporary finish. The aim is to install a ceiling fan to improve air circulation alongside the existing air conditioning system, providing a more energy-efficient cooling option while eliminating the need for a space-consuming standing fan.
The existing flooring consists of worn, outdated linoleum, which will be replaced with an affordable vinyl flooring that resembles light natural wood. A plush area rug will be added to enhance comfort, introduce texture, and create a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.
Overall, this redesign aims to create a functional, organized, and calming bedroom that supports rest and well-being through thoughtful and visually space planning, efficient storage solutions, a soothing earthy color palette. The completed design will reflect the principles of residential interior design by balancing aesthetics, functionality, and comfort while creating a space that better meets the client's needs.
