Finding out your dog's favourite food and least favourite food and treats can really come in handy for your training.
With the 'higher value' treats that your dog loves the most - use these in higher distraction environments
For 'lower value' treats or food - for maintaining behaviour, and for lower distraction environemnts
There are loads of ways of finding out your dog's preferences, but this particular one is one of my favourite experiments.
This is called the muffin tray experiment
Have a muffin tray, and fill it with different foods -
For example, if we had a tray with 6 sections -
1 - brocolli
2 - carrot piece
3 - apple slice
4 - chicken
5 - cheese
6 - a small blob of peanut butter
Then give this tray to your dog and see what they go for first
Repat this 3 times, just to be sure that they're going for the food in the same order
Whichever is the top 3 favourite, you can repeat the experiment with just these, and the same with the least favourite. Or put them against different foods.
Have a go, take a video and show me how you get on!
