🚧 Malecón Expansion Update: Still Unfinished (January 2026)
Quick update for anyone walking, living, or running a business near the Malecón extension by Parque Hidalgo.
The Malecón expansion work along Avenida México (between Argentina and 31 de Octubre) is still not finished. Construction began back on October 13, 2025, with an original target of mid-December — but that deadline came and went.
As of January 15, 2026, the city says the project is close to completion, with a possible end-of-January finish now being mentioned. The main delays appear to be tied to drainage and storm-water upgrades that were added into the project.
In the meantime:
• Pedestrian flow is still being rerouted
• Temporary crossings and barriers remain
• Local businesses say the disruption has affected foot traffic during a busy season
The big question now isn’t how it’ll look — it’s when the full route will finally reopen.
