Lord of the Rings & The Psychedelic Journey Into the Unknown
I just watched the first Lord of the Rings movie--Fellowship of the Ring. And wow.....I get the hype around this piece of fantasy; especially, for us Psychonauts.
I was once told that "Acid feels like Star Wars, and Shrooms feel like Lord of the Rings". I never understood this until I saw the 1st movie. LOTR can be used as an allegory for so many different things...but when you think about it, Frodo's journey is just like that of a Psychedelic journey.
Whenever we take a sizeable dose of any psychedelic we become our own Frodo who must go through trials and tribulations to reach his goal.
Our journey on the other hand is crossing and contending with uncharted mental & emotional realms. And along the trip we'll come across our versions of shamans like Gandalf (I know he's a wizard) who will assist and sometimes guide us to where we need to go.
QUESTION: what do you think? Do you think there's a better movie out there that alludes or feels like a trip?
