šŸŽµ New Challenge Starting Monday: The 15-Minute Songwriter
Hey Planted & Prosperous family!
I want to invite you into something I’ve been thinking about for a while now.
Starting Monday, we’re doing another community songwriting challenge.
Here’s the idea:
We’re going to pick a message or scripture together, and over the course of one week, we’re going to write a song from it—using just 15 minutes a day.
Why Am I Doing This?
Because I keep hearing the same thing from worship leaders:
ā€œI don’t have time to write.ā€
And I get it. You’re busy. Full-time job, family, church responsibilities—life is FULL.
But here’s what I’ve learned over 19 years of writing songs while leading worship at the same church:
You don’t need hours. You just need a system.
When I started writing, I didn’t have time either. But I found 15 minutes here and there—before work, during lunch, after the kids went to bed—and those small increments added up.
Over time, those 15-minute sessions became 200+ songs.
And I want to show you that it’s possible for you too.
Here’s How It Works:
Each day, we’ll focus on one step of the songwriting process. I’ll go LIVE to demonstrate what I’m doing, and you’ll work alongside me in your own 15-minute window.
By the end of the week, you’ll have a complete song—from idea to demo.
No overthinking. No perfectionism. Just consistent action.
This isn’t about writing the ā€œbestā€ song. It’s about proving to yourself that you CAN write—even when life is busy.
What I Need From You:
āœ… Commitment: 15 minutes a day, Monday through Saturday
āœ… Participation: Show up, share your progress, encourage others
āœ… Flexibility: If you miss a day, jump back in—don’t quit
āœ… Openness: Let go of perfectionism and just CREATE
Why Join This Challenge?
Because finishing ONE song will change how you see yourself as a songwriter.
Right now, you might have:
• Half-finished ideas in your voice memos
• Lyrics scribbled in notebooks that never became songs
• Melodies you hummed once and forgot
This challenge will teach you how to take those fragments and turn them into FINISHED songs.
And once you do it once? You can do it again. And again.
That’s how you build a catalog.
Here’s What You Need to Do Before Monday:
1ļøāƒ£ Clear 15 minutes in your daily schedule (pick a consistent time if possible)
2ļøāƒ£ Comment ā€œI’M INā€ below so I know you’re participating
3ļøāƒ£ Think about a message or scripture that’s been stirring in your heart—we’ll choose one together on Monday to write from
A Word of Encouragement:
If you’re nervous, that’s normal.
If you’re thinking ā€œI’m not good enoughā€ or ā€œWhat if my song isn’t any good?ā€ā€”I hear you.
But here’s the thing: This isn’t about being good. It’s about being FAITHFUL.
Faithful to the creative gift God put in you.
Faithful to the process, even when it feels messy.
Faithful to finishing what you start.
And you’re not doing this alone. We’re doing it together.
So, are you in?
Comment ā€œI’M INā€ below, and let’s do this.
Monday, we start. Let’s see what God births through us in just 15 minutes a day.
I’m excited to build with you. šŸ”„šŸ™
