On Forgiveness
Honestly, I find the whole concept rather unhelpful — if not arrogant. Like, excuse me, but who are you to grant forgiveness to others? To judge whether they deserve it or not?
And what’s the alternative anyway? Holding a grudge? ‘Cause that’s real smart — like drinking poison and expecting them to die.
I think we owe it to ourselves to learn compassion for everyone. To understand that they are doing their best in face of very difficult circumstances. We can try and help them — not by giving them what they want, but by trying to understand what they need.
Or we can turn our backs on them, and pay the price.
