Wednesday Cyber Update - TAKE IT DOWN ACT
This is now federal law. Sharing nonconsensual intimate images is a crime. That includes AI-generated content. Platforms are required to remove flagged material within 48 hours. If they don’t, they face legal action. That includes fines and injunctive relief.
Execution is the next phase. The law doesn’t enforce itself. It will require professionals who can manage takedown processes, respond to legal requests, document actions, and ensure systems meet regulatory requirements. This isn’t theoretical. It’s operational.
This will increase hiring. GRC will be the ground it plays out on. Governance for internal policies. Risk management for platform exposure. Compliance to meet response timelines and maintain evidence.
We’re going to walk through the text, the mandates, and the roles being shaped by it.
I think about my child growing up in a world where their image, their privacy, and their future are safeguarded by the systems we build today. This law is one step in that direction. It reminds me that cybersecurity Is stewardship. And it matters more than ever.
STUDENTS: Each answer will be worth 2 hours of Internship time.
What aspects of GRC will you be directly involved in as this law begins to activate across platforms and systems?
How would you design the escalation process between a flagged image, a legal review, and platform removal?
How do you create policy for something this new—when the tools and threats evolve faster than the law?
