Selling yourself
So how do you go about marketing your photos? I am not into the seniors/weddings/corporate photography scene. I am more into landscapes/wildlife/racing scenes. I have a smugmug account that a lot of my work is on but it doesn't sell. So I end up paying to keep my photos there so people can see them. Its an expense that I never recover.
I will say I am just a hobbiest and do most of this for fun.
People do comment on my work but nobody ever purchases any of it. Not that I am complaining, I am more curious as to how to drive people to purchase what they like.
I am sure a lot of it has to do with marketing and making a name for yourself out there. However I am still not convinced that people purchase photos much anymore as they have access to all photos they could want online.
So how do you all go about it? Do you generate a lot of sales on your work or is it mostly the portraits that you do. Maybe I shouldn't be concerned about any of it and eliminate the smugmug account that is costing me year after year.
I would like to hear your thoughts on this and any tips or advice. Just throw it all at me as I do need to make a decision this year to stay with it or just quit trying to sell it.
I will add that I do not get much traffic at all going thru my smugmug site. Which again goes back into self promotion and marketing. None of which I know how to do.
So any help there would be awesome!
Thanks all and looking forward to conversations to the above.
