The £10K Client Hack You Can Borrow Today
🪄 If you’re trying to land high-paying clients without a slick portfolio to show off, let me hand you a tactic that’s been working beautifully for some of my 1-1 clients.
I call it The Freelance Flip – and it’s smarter than it sounds.
Here’s the problem:
You’re great at what you do. But you’re new. So when you pitch, the first question is always: “Can I see examples of your work?”
Here’s the workaround:
You borrow social proof by association.
🧠 I showed my clients how to reach out to freelance designers, developers or copywriters (on Fiverr, Upwork, etc.), and get permission to showcase a few of their portfolio pieces as examples of what your collaboration can deliver.
Not to fake your way through, but to build a genuine partnership where you send them leads and showcase their talent.
Here’s why it works:
- You're honest about the collaboration
- You only use pieces with permission
- The freelancer wins new work
- You get to close deals while your own portfolio is growing
It’s simple, ethical and repeatable.
Here’s what to say:
- Compliment their work
- Offer to send them paid leads
- Ask to use a few of their visuals in your pitch deck
- Make it clear that it’s a collaboration, not a white-label job
Some of my clients have used this exact method to lock in £25K projects within a few weeks of starting out.
