📖 New Bible Study Live: Ruth 1:16–17
This week we're on a road from Moab to Bethlehem with two widows. Naomi has lost everything and is going home empty. She has released Ruth from any obligation. Orpah turns back. Ruth refuses.
Here's what's worth sitting with: Ruth's vow asks for nothing in return.
She binds herself to a widow with no resources, no sons, no prospects. She leaves her homeland, her family, her gods. And she does it without negotiating terms or asking Naomi to promise anything back. "Where you go I will go... your people shall be my people, and your God my God."
That's not a transaction. That's covenant faithfulness, the kind that holds when there's nothing to gain.
Later, Boaz will say to Ruth: "All that you have done for your mother-in-law has been fully told to me." Her faithfulness was noticed. But on that road, Ruth couldn't have known that.
Before you dig into the study, sit with the passage and notice:
- What is Ruth leaving behind? What is she walking toward?
- What does Ruth ask Naomi for in return?
The full study is available now in the classroom course area. Come back and share what stood out.
What does faithfulness look like when the other person has nothing to offer?
