Scripture
Romans 12:10 (KJV)
“Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;”
Today’s Reflection:
In this verse, the Apostle Paul calls us to a profound level of relational living within the body of Christ. “Kindly affectioned” speaks to a warm, familial tenderness, like the bond between siblings in a loving family. It’s not just about polite interactions but genuine, heartfelt care. Paired with “brotherly love,” it reminds us that our connections as believers should mirror the unbreakable ties of family, rooted in Christ’s love for us.
The second part challenges us further: “in honour preferring one another.” This means actively putting others first, esteeming them higher than ourselves. In a world that often promotes self-promotion and competition, Paul urges humility and selflessness. Imagine how our communities, workplaces, and homes would transform if we made it a habit to celebrate others’ strengths, defer to their needs, and lift them up without seeking the spotlight.
Today’s Application:
Today, look for opportunities to prefer someone else in honor. It could be as simple as letting a colleague take credit for a team effort, listening attentively to a friend’s story without interrupting, or performing a small act of kindness for a family member. Ask yourself: How can I show brotherly love in my interactions? Let this verse guide your actions, fostering deeper relationships and reflecting God’s love to those around you.
Today’s Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of brotherly love shown through Your Son, Jesus. Help me to be kindly affectioned toward others, treating them with the warmth and honor they deserve as Your children. Teach me to prefer others above myself, putting aside pride and selfishness. May my life today be a testimony of Your transforming love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
