Today’s Scripture
“A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”
Proverbs 18:24 (KJV)
Today’s Reflection
This short but powerful proverb gives us two life-changing truths about friendship.
First, friendship is not automatic. If we want friends, we must “shew himself friendly.” That means taking the initiative, smiling first, listening more, reaching out instead of waiting to be reached. Kindness is the seed that grows real relationships.
Second, and far more wonderful, there is a Friend who doesn’t need us to earn His loyalty. Jesus Christ is the Friend who sticks closer than a brother. When every other relationship fails, when people disappoint or walk away, He remains. He never leaves, never ghosts, never changes His mind about you. He proved it on the cross, laying down His life for you while you were still His enemy (Romans 5:8).
Today, you are never friendless. Even if your phone is quiet and your circle feels small, the greatest Friend in the universe is right beside you.
Application for Today
1. Show yourself friendly: Send a quick encouraging text, buy someone’s coffee, or simply smile and say hello to a stranger.
2. Lean on your ultimate Friend: When loneliness, anxiety, or hurt tries to creep in, pause and whisper, “Jesus, You are my closest Friend.” Let Him fill the empty places no person can reach.
Today’s Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for being the Friend who sticks closer than a brother. Forgive me for the times I’ve waited for others to be friendly first. Help me today to show Your love in simple, practical ways. And when I feel alone, remind my heart that You are always near. I rest in Your unbreakable friendship.
In Your precious name I pray,
Amen.
