Latency when recording

Hey guys I'd like to get as many opinions on this as possible. When I'm recording i can always hear myself with a delay in the headphones, making it sound like I'm off beat. I've found ways of getting good takes despite this but it still usually bothers me, especially when I first get back into the booth. My producer says most rappers like hearing themselves in the headphones and that I should get used to it. Do you guys have latency on your vocals when you record? If so does it throw you off?
