A Win With FIA and AUM
A recent client conversation was a great reminder that when we take the time to understand the full financial picture, we can often create more value than the client initially expected.
The client originally wanted to discuss a portion of his TSP that had been sitting in the G Fund. After learning more about what he wanted that money to accomplish, including protection, growth potential, and future retirement income, we determined that allocating a portion to a fixed indexed annuity was appropriate for his goals.
As the conversation continued, we also discussed his longer-term tax picture and the importance of building tax-free assets over time. That led to opening a Roth IRA alongside the FIA strategy. We will max out this account each year for the next 10 years.
It was a win because the client did not simply make one isolated decision. He left with a clearer understanding of how different accounts can serve different purposes within a coordinated retirement plan.
My takeaway: FIA and AUM opportunities do not need to compete with one another. When we lead with education and ask thoughtful questions, clients can better understand how protection, growth, tax planning, and liquidity may fit together.
Small wins like this add up, especially when the focus remains on doing what is right for the client.
