A lot of people creating AI music don’t realize this yet…

The U.S. Copyright Office clarified how copyright works with AI-generated content, and it directly affects AI music producers.

Here’s the key point:

👉 Music created 100% by AI cannot be copyrighted.

So if you simply type a prompt into an AI music generator and publish the result, the song may not legally qualify for copyright protection.

However, there’s an important distinction.

✅ AI-assisted music CAN still be copyrighted if a human contributes meaningful creativity.

Examples of human contribution:

• Writing lyrics• Rearranging the song structure• Editing melodies or chords

• Producing and arranging stems

• Mixing and finishing the record

In other words:

🎹 AI can help create the music — but human creativity still needs to drive the final work.

That’s why the best approach moving forward is to treat AI as a tool or collaborator, not the entire creator.
