Deleting images on the SD card

I just wonder what is the best practice to delete old photage on the SD card in the camera?

If I format the card in settings, doesn't that delete the Memory Recall files?

Or do you delete them in the folder view in Windows?

I just want to do it the proper way, without deleting my memory recall 😊
