Day 23
DAY 23 — Morning
Theme: SERVING THROUGH SACRIFICE COOPERATION AND TEAMWORK: Learning That A Strong Marriage Grows When Two Willingly Work Together, Make Room for Each Other And Pursue Their Shared Well-being
🌅 Reflection
COOPERATE EVEN WHEN YOU DISAGREE
Good morning,
Cooperation is easy when you agree. The real test comes when you see things differently.
You may disagree about how to spend money, discipline a child, respond to a relative, or use your limited time. In such moments, the temptation may be to insist on your position, withdraw from the discussion, or try to prove that your spouse is wrong.
But disagreement does not automatically make you enemies.
You can express a different opinion while remaining respectful. You can explain your concerns without insulting your spouse's intelligence or motives. You can also change your mind when you discover that your partner has a valid point.
Cooperation does not require you to abandon your convictions. It requires you to approach the disagreement with a willingness to understand and find a workable solution.
Sometimes, you may need to pause the discussion and return to it when both of you are calmer.
The goal is not to eliminate every difference. It is to prevent differences from destroying the respect and friendship that hold you together.
📖 God's Word
Ephesians 4:2–3: "With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."
❤️ Today's Love Action
If you and your spouse disagree about something, practise explaining your position without attacking theirs.
Before responding, summarize what you understand your spouse to be saying. Ask whether you have understood correctly.
Then work together to identify a solution that addresses the most important concerns of both partners.
💬 Let's Talk
When we disagree, what habits help us remain partners instead of becoming opponents?
🙏 Prayer
Father, teach us to disagree with humility and love. Help us to listen before responding, to speak without cruelty, and to seek peace without ignoring important concerns. Give us wisdom to find solutions that strengthen our relationship. In Jesus' name, Amen.
🌿 From The Counselor's Chair
A disagreement becomes more damaging when couples begin attacking each other's character rather than addressing the issue. Focus on the problem, describe your concerns clearly, and avoid insults, threats, or bringing unrelated past failures into the discussion.
If a conversation becomes too heated, agree to pause and return to it when both of you can speak calmly.
💎 Marriage Nugget
"You do not have to agree on everything to work together with love and respect."
Remember: In marriage, love becomes powerful when it is expressed through humble, consistent and joyful service.
