From his early days on television in The Wire and Friday Night Lights, to commanding the global stage in Black Panther, Creed, and Fruitvale Station, his journey has been anything but ordinary. Each role, each performance, each step forward built the man we now celebrate as an Academy Award winner for Best Actor. But let’s not sanitize the journey. Just weeks before this moment, he was reportedly in Europe and subjected to a racist slur. Let that sit with you. At the very moment he is rising to the highest level of his craft, he is still forced to confront the lowest expressions of ignorance. And yet… he kept moving.
