First Job as a Kitchen Porter

I know this isnt anything about hair but i thought i would ask anyway

Im looking to get my first part time job and a local pub are hiring kitchen porters. From what I can tell all you really do is take food from the kitchen and bring it to the tables and thats about it. That seems like a job the water/waitress would do so I am I missing somthing. And is this a good first job or should I stay away. Any help is appreciated and if you have or know someone who has been a kitchen porter I would love any advise you can give.
