🔥 New module - Basic Editing with Davinci Resolve
This module is for anyone who has never edited before.
It is not complicated at all. By the end you will have brought your footage in, cut it, coloured it, mixed the sound and exported a finished file.
Everything I show is in the free version of DaVinci Resolve. Not a trial, not a watermark. I go through the paid Studio version and what the extra ten percent gives you, but you do not need any of it to finish a film today.
What we go through:
  • Free or Studio, and why $295 once is a better deal than paying every month for the rest of your life
  • Setting the project up properly: master, bins, timelines, and your whole footage folder in with one drag
  • The only three pages you need on day one. Edit, Color, Deliver. The rest can wait.
  • A 16:9 timeline for YouTube and a 9:16 for Instagram, built from the same footage
  • Reframing a wide shot into vertical by hand, with position, zoom and crop
  • Cutting: the blade, and the snapping magnet that decides whether editing feels easy or terrible
  • Colour in two minutes. One node, lift, gamma, gain, then exposure and saturation. That is enough to start with.
  • Sound: locking the audio to the video so they never drift apart, and the levels that matter. Dialogue around minus three to minus six, music around minus twenty five, and never let it touch zero.
  • In and out points, so you only bring the good part into your timeline
  • Exporting properly, QuickTime or MP4, through the render queue
