I cried on joining!
Once I made the decision to join, I was so emotional. Why? Pure relief! I feel I've found a community and that means other grown ups in the room - so to speak. The journey of online teaching is exciting but it's quite a solo experience. I tried a year long membership elsewhere and felt overwhelmed and always on the margins. To be honest, I turn 60 this year so new beginnings feel more daunting than in previous decades. Leo has been such a good listener and has reflected specific ways LYE can offer the support I need to sustain me on my journey. The onboarding has been helpful and responsive so far. Thank you! I did CELTA in 2020 and in some ways feel I'm still recovering! Learning doesn't have to be/ shouldn't so painful! These days I'm teaching Creative Writing to young students ages 6 to 12. This builds on my work in children's book publishing. I also have a couple adult students developing their conversational skills. So far, the feedback has been encouraging and word of mouth has been growing - slowly, but surely. I'm at a stage where I know I need to 1. switch to program/ course-based teaching which will help me explore more sustainable models. 2. build my student-base and income to make this chapter feasible and worthwhile. I really can't imagine what else I could or would be doing now. So, I'm all in!
