More than one-third of U.S. adults are obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Obesity can raise the likelihood of many adverse health conditions including heart disease, stroke, Type 2 diabetes and certain kinds of cancer.
A new weight-loss study was conducted out of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas. It showed that the majority of people who were members in a weight-loss group lost 10.1 pounds on average by the end of six months, while people who weren't in the program only lost 1.3 pounds. The group was 8 times more likely to drop 5 percent of their body weight, and 8.8 times more likely to lose 10 percent, than the people who were trying to lose weight on their own.
