Morels to cardboard as a stopgap
I've got what I think is my last flush (5th) of morels that are getting sun baked (with the exception of a random giant one which I will clone to agar) and am going to try to use stem butts and teeny fruiting bodies directly to corrugated cardboard as a way to keep the genetics in a holding pattern until I can source fresh wood chips. Will likely try these guys in a pot before spring.
Cardboard culture isn't in any way new for decomposers but it its not a great food source so I only keep cultures going on cardboard for a few weeks max before figuring out a way to do some kind of nutritive media. It is, however, a great accessible tool to keep on hand in the event you are camping or on remote foray. I pour boiling water over my cardboard for a few minutes and let it drain prior to use.
