Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” [Mark 6:31, NIV]
We've all experience periods in our life when we're so busy we can barely breathe. You can run from one task to another and by the time you get into bed at night (if you get into bed at all), you feel like you're going to collapse. I know the feeling!
At times like these, It's important to remember that our brain needs a good break every now and then. The quality of our quiet time, a time when we go somewhere "lonely and private" and meditate on good things will contribute to the quality of our mental health. When we direct our rest by introspection, self reflection, and prayer; when we catch up on our toxic thoughts; when we study, memorize and quote Scripture; and we develop our minds intellectually, we enhance the default mode network (DMN) that improves brain function and mental, physical, and spiritual health.
