Hi ladies,
I had a little discovery last night that I wanted to share with you.
I was thinking about why summer can feel so overwhelming, even when life is full of good things.
Business is picking up. Kids and grandkids are out of school. People want to gather. Trips are being planned. Meals, schedules, activities, family time, work, clients, community, and all the things still need someone to think about them.
And let’s be honest.
A lot of that thinking usually falls on us, the matriarch.
Even when no one says it out loud, there is often an unspoken expectation that we will handle the calendar, the emotions, the details, the memories, the meals, the magic, and the backup plan.
No wonder we feel tired.
So last night, I started listing out all the roles I am carrying right now.
Here are some of mine:
wife
Mom
Mother-in-law
Mimi
Daughter
Friend
Loan officer
Mortgage coach
Branch manager
Community leader
Business mentor
Small business owner
Founder of LIT
Retreat host
Realtor educator
And I think that’s it....Basically, the one people often look to for answers.
And honestly, seeing it written out helped me breathe for a minute.
Because sometimes we think we are overwhelmed because we are doing something wrong.
But maybe we are overwhelmed because we are carrying a lot.
Every role matters.
But every role does not need the same amount of attention at the same time.
That was the part that landed for me. I do not have to give every person, every responsibility, every idea, and every expectation equal access to my energy RIGHT NOW.
Neither do you.
As we move through summer and into the next season of the year, maybe the better question is not, “How do I get it all done?”
Maybe the better question is:
What actually deserves my focus RIGHT NOW?
And what can lovingly wait?
This might be a good journal prompt for you this week:
Write down every role you are currently carrying.
Then ask yourself:
Which roles need my attention in this season?
Which ones am I over-functioning in?
Where am I carrying expectations no one actually asked me to carry?
What can I release, simplify, or ask for help with?
What would feel lighter if I stopped trying to do it perfectly?
Because you are not here to be everything to everyone.
You are here to live with intention.
And sometimes intention starts by telling the truth and allowing yourself to say, “This is a lot.”
Then choosing what actually matters most right now.
Let’s give ourselves permission to focus, simplify, and breathe.
