In Moroccan Darija, we often write Arabic sounds using numbers when we use Latin letters.
here's a simple guide to help you read and pronounce everything correctly 👇
🔢 Common Darija Letters Explained :
• 3 = ع
A deep sound from the throat, like a strong “a”Example: 3alam (flag), La3ib (player).
• 7 = ح
A strong “h” sound, whispered from the throatExample: 7akam (referee), Rba7 (win).
• 9 = ق
A hard “k” sound, deeper than normal “k”Example: Fari9 (team), 9a2id (captain).
• 2 = ء (hamza)
A short pause or cut in the soundExample: Ka2s (cup), Ta9am Tibbi.
