What did they expect?
Several years ago, some Muslim men invited me to pray with them. I made it clear that I am a Christian and that my faith is in Christ Jesus. When I prayed in the name of Jesus, they were shocked. They pulled me out of the prayer room and yelled at me. My response was simple: what did you expect?
Yesterday, I made a comment about Mormonism and got an angry reaction from someone I know. Again, I have to ask: if you have known me for years, seen my posts, and know where I stand, what did you expect?
I follow Jesus Christ. I believe what He said in John 14:6, that He is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one comes to the Father except through Him. I believe Acts 4:12, that there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. And I believe Galatians 1:8, that any other gospel is to be rejected.
Because of that, I cannot pretend all doctrines are equal. I cannot call truth and error the same thing. Ephesians 4:15 says to speak the truth in love, and that is what I intend to do. If I speak strongly, it is not because I hate anyone. It is because I believe the Bible, I believe the gospel, and I take eternal things seriously.
You do not have to agree with me. You can leave a negative comment if you want. I am not offended by disagreement. But my answer is simple: prove me wrong from Scripture. Show me where I am in error. I am willing to have the conversation.
Your disagreement will not stop me from being civil, and it will not get in the way of friendship. But I am not going to compromise the truth of the gospel just to keep people comfortable.
