God Moved In-Part 1
I receive a lot of emails about loneliness. It doesn’t matter whether someone is single or in a relationship—the feeling shows up the same way.
You can be sitting next to someone and still feel completely alone. That’s what surprises people. They think the solution is physical presence, that if they just had the right person in their life, the loneliness would go away. And yes, God did design relationships, and there is nothing wrong with marriage. For most people, it is a good and right thing to share life with someone. There are exceptions, like Paul, who chose to remain alone for the cause of Christ—but that is not the majority. Still, even in the best relationship, loneliness can remain, because the real issue is not simply having someone near you—it’s having someone with you constantly. That is where most people miss what God has already done.
There is only one true cure for loneliness, and God has already provided it. The cure is His presence—not occasional, not conditional, not based on how you feel—but constant. He promised it, and He fulfilled it through the Holy Spirit. Yet many Christians struggle to live in that reality because they are looking for something they can see or feel. If they don’t feel God, they assume He must be distant. But truth is not determined by feeling.
The reality is this: if you are in Christ, God is in you. Think about it in simple terms. When someone truly cares about you, they want to be with you. They don’t keep their distance. They don’t show up once in a while. They stay. So what has God done? He made the decision—not based on your performance, not based on your consistency—but based on His love—to live in you. From the moment you are born again, He is present in every moment of your life. Not some moments, not just the good ones, but every single one. If we really believed that, it would change everything. We would stop saying we feel alone, and we would stop searching for something that has already been given, because the truth is we are not alone—and we have not been alone since the moment He came to dwell within us.
And here is what is even more amazing: He stays. Because of what Jesus Christ accomplished, God didn’t just come near—He chose to remain. He knew every failure you would have, every struggle, every moment where you would fall short, and still He moved in. Scripture says, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5), and that is not a suggestion—it is a promise. Not sometimes, not when you are doing well, but never. You may forget it, and you may not feel it, but it does not change the truth. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves over and over again—put it where we can see it, repeat it until it settles in: He never leaves me, He never forsakes me.
God didn’t go through everything He did—sending His Son, restoring us, bringing us into new life—just to remain distant. He did it because He wanted to dwell with us, and now He does. His presence is not somewhere out there waiting for you to reach it; His presence is within you. You might not always feel like it, especially when you are focused on your flesh, your mistakes, or your circumstances, but feelings do not rewrite truth—not even a little. God is in you, period.
Too many people treat God as if He were far away, as if they were trying to reach Him, as if they were making a long-distance phone call, hoping He would answer, but that is not the reality of the new covenant. This is not distance—it is nearness. He is not somewhere out there; He is here, and until we truly believe that, we will continue to search for something we already have.
