Fasika, also known as Ethiopian Orthodox Easter, is the most important religious celebration in the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. It commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ after a long period of fasting called Lent (Hudade), which lasts 55 days.
The celebration begins with a midnight church service filled with prayers, candles, and hymns. Afterward, families gather to break their fast with traditional foods like doro wat (chicken stew) and injera. Fasika is a time of faith, forgiveness, and joyful reunion with loved ones.
