What can improv teach us?
I heard Allen Alda say he attributed his career success and whatever big award he had just won to improv. Said it is learning to listen to the person you’re talking to so close you can anticipate what was coming next or at least be able to continue (or take) the thought.
The interviewer said that didn’t make sense, he was an actor reading lines and that improv wouldn’t help that. He argued that it does. Learning to read the person you are talking to so well you can finish their sentences or stories takes even a scripted conversation from mundane to magical.
