๐ฃ๏ธ SPEAKING TASK OF THE DAY (Part 2 โ Cue Card)
Describe a place in your city that you enjoy visiting.
You should say:
- where it is
- how often you go there
- what you do there
- and explain why you enjoy visiting this place.
You have 1 minute to prepare (make notes) and should talk for 2 minutes.
Band 6 model: "There's a small park near my flat that I really like. I go there a few times a week, usually in the evening. I walk around, sometimes I sit and read. I enjoy it because it's quiet and I can relax after work."
Band 8 upgrade: "There's a tucked-away park near my flat that I'm particularly fond of. I pop over a few evenings a week to stroll around or unwind with a book. What draws me to it is the calm โ it's the perfect antidote to a hectic workday."
- tucked-away = hidden/quiet (natural, high-level adjective)
- particularly fond of = strong, idiomatic way to say "really like"
- unwind = relax; a precise verb examiners reward

โ๏ธ WRITING TASK OF THE DAY (Task 2 โ Opinion)
Some people believe that public money should be spent on preserving old buildings, while others think it would be better used on building new housing. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Skeleton:
- Intro โ paraphrase the question + state your opinion.
- Body 1 โ the case for preserving heritage buildings.
- Body 2 โ the case for new housing.
- Conclusion โ restate your position clearly.
Examiner tip: A "discuss both views" essay MUST cover both sides, even if you lean one way โ answering only your own opinion caps you on Task Response.
๐ฏ Lower level: just write the introduction (2โ3 sentences).
๐ฏ Advanced: full 250+ word essay in 40 minutes.
๐ READING TIP OF THE DAY โ True/False/Not Given traps
Trap: don't confuse False with Not Given. False = the passage says the opposite. Not Given = the passage simply doesn't tell you.
Mini-passage: "The museum, opened in 1904, attracts over two million visitors annually. Its collection focuses mainly on regional pottery. Admission has been free since 2010."
Question: The museum is the most visited attraction in the region. โ True, False, or Not Given?
Walk-through: The passage gives visitor numbers (2 million) but never compares the museum to other attractions. No "most visited" claim appears. Tempting to guess True because 2 million sounds huge โ but that's the trap. โ
Answer: Not Given.
