The One Where You Read You the Disclaimer
Idaho Notary Alliance — please read.
Yes, all of it. You're a notary; you know the drill.
You, of all people, appreciate that some things have to be in writing. So before we dive into
the training, the discussions, and the occasional 11 p.m. "is this signer's ID actually valid?"
panic — let's get the ground rules on the record. Plain English. No magnifying glass required.
The short version (for the scanners)
We teach. We don't advise. Idaho Notary Alliance is education and community — not your lawyer,
not the Secretary of State, and not the final word on any law. Verify everything with the official
sources before you rely on it. What happens at your signing table is on you.
The full version (for the careful ones — that's most of you)
1. This is education, not legal advice.
Everything here — courses, posts, checklists, comments, hallway chatter — is for educational and
informational purposes only. It is not legal advice, and it does not create any professional relationship between you and INA.
2. When it's a legal question, call a lawyer.
If you're facing an actual legal question, consult a licensed Idaho attorney. We can tell you what
a document *is*. We can't tell you what it *means* for your situation — and neither can any notary,
because that's the practice of law.
3. When it's a commission or procedure question, call the source.
For anything about your commission, notarial acts, or Idaho procedure, contact the **Idaho Secretary
of State's office** directly. They're the authority. We're the study group.
4. Check the Idaho Notary Handbook — and check the date.
Laws, rules, fees, and best practices change. Always confirm against the current **Idaho Notary
Handbook**, current **Idaho Code (Title 51)**, and official Idaho SOS guidance. Content here is
accurate to the best of our knowledge when written and *can become dated*. If something we posted
and the official source disagree, the official source wins. Every time.
5. Idaho only.
This is built for Idaho notaries. If you work another state, or a signing crosses state lines, that
state's law may be different. Don't assume Idaho rules travel.
6. Peer advice is peer advice.
Members share real experience, and it's gold — but a helpful comment is someone's opinion, not
verified legal guidance. Don't bet your commission on a forum reply. Confirm it.
7. You're the notary in the chair.
Ultimate responsibility for every notarial act — the ID check, the journal, the refusal, the whole
call — rests with **you**. INA is not responsible for how you apply anything you learn here, or for
any legal interpretation you make from it.
8. Protect yourself and your signers.
INA is not your insurance. Carry your own E&O coverage and follow the requirements of the companies
you work with. And keep signer information (NPPI) *out* of the community — no names, no docs, no
identifying details in posts.
9. No guarantees.
We'll help you get sharper and more hireable, but we can't and don't promise specific work, income,
or results. That part's up to you and the market.
10. Third-party stuff.
Links, tools, and resources we mention aren't endorsements, and we're not responsible for outside
content. Read their fine print too.
11. House rules (a.k.a. how to get yourself removed)
We want this to be the kind of room where you'd happily hand someone your good pen. To keep it that
way, INA reserves the right to remove, suspend, or ban any member at any time, for any reason or
no reason at all, at our sole discretion. Membership here is a privilege, not a property line.
You won't get "affixed by another at the direction of the admin" — you'll just be gone. No notary
journal entry required. That said, we're reasonable folks, and it basically never comes to this
unless you go out of your way to earn it.
Ways to earn it include, but are not limited to:
- Spamming.Your MLM, your crypto play, your cousin's driveway-sealing business — the door is that way.
- Handing out legal advice like you passed a bar exam you did not, in fact, take.
- Posting a signer's private info. Names, SSNs, loan docs, that photo of their ID. Instant hook. This one's not a joke.
- Being a jerk. Harassment, threats, bigotry, or picking fights. We're notaries, not gladiators.
- Fraud or shady business. If it wouldn't survive your own ID check, don't bring it here.
- Impersonating INA, an admin, or the Secretary of State (we'll notice).
- Turning every thread into drama. We came for referrals and Right-to-Cancel questions, not a reality show.
Do the opposite of all that — be helpful, be honest, keep it professional — and you'll never think
about this section again. Our decision on membership is final, and no refund of anything is owed
(which is easy since it's free right now).
By joining and participating in Idaho Notary Alliance, you acknowledge you've read this and agree
to it. Not because we think you're trouble — because you're a professional, and professionals
put it in writing.
Now. Let's go help you thrive. 🌄
