Welcome aboard. This is the crew for people breaking into U.S. commercial shipping — the six-figure-track, no-degree career most folks never hear about. Great Lakes freighters or deep-sea, you're in the right place.
Three things to do right now:
1) Drop an intro in the comments 👇 — where you're from, and where you are on the journey (just curious / getting credentials / already sailing).
2) Start your TWIC card first. That background check takes 45–60 days and is what delays everyone — every other credential can run in parallel while it processes.
3) Ask anything. Engine vs. deck, SIU vs. Great Lakes, STCW or skip it, what the work's really like — no question is too basic here.
The honest deal: this is a real path, not a get-rich promise. Entry roles start around $45–55k; six figures is up the ladder (3rd Engineer ~$100k+), earned with sea time. 2026 ranges, and your results depend on you.
