May- Two Full Moons
May 2026 Two Full Moons. One Complete Cycle. 🌕🔵
This is not just a rare sky event.
It is a full lunar cycle contained within a single month opening and closing with power. May begins in bloom and ends in rarity.
🌕 May 1 The Flower Moon
The first Full Moon rises at 1:23 PM EDT, already illuminated as it enters the evening sky. Named for the wildflowers that cover the land during this time lupine, dogwood, buttercup this Moon has long been associated with fertility, abundance, and the height of spring’s expansion. The name comes from the abundance of flowers that bloom at this time of year, covering fields, hedgerows, and gardens in colour. Nature is no longer holding back, it’s expressing itself fully, openly, and without apology.
Other Native American names include Leaf Budding Moon (Cree) and Planting Moon (Dakota, Lakota), while some suggested Anglo-Saxon or Celtic names include Milk Moon, Bright Moon, Hare Moon, Grass Moon, or Mothers’ Moon.
In witchcraft, this is a Moon of growth and manifestation. What was planted earlier in the year begins to show itself. Energy moves outward. Intentions take form. The earth is no longer dormant — it is giving.
Also signifies growth, expression, and the courage to be seen. A stage where potential turns into presence, where what has been nurtured quietly now begins to bloom. It’s a reminder that growth isn’t only about striving forward, it’s also about pausing to acknowledge what’s already flourishing.
Full Flower Moon in Scorpio symbolizes intense transformation, emotional depth, and flourishing growth. It signifies a time for shedding old layers to embrace inner abundance and visibility.
This is the Moon of fullness, attraction, and visible magic.
This moon falls on Beltane.
It is also a micro moon.
Key Symbolism of the Flower Moon:
Transformation & Depth (Scorpio): Occurring in Scorpio, this moon focuses on diving below the surface to release old wounds and embrace deep personal changes.
Abundance & Growth: Named for the blooming spring, it represents the full expression of potential and acknowledging the growth and progress achieved.
Visibility & Self-Trust: It encourages stepping into your own light, taking up space, and trusting your inner voice, notes.
Balance: With the Sun in Taurus opposing the Scorpio moon, the theme is balancing stability with emotional vulnerability.
Spiritually, the Flower Moon carries themes of visibility, alignment, and self-trust. It invites reflection on where you’re being asked to step into your own light, to take up space without shrinking or rushing yourself.
Some tips for celebration:
  • Spend time outdoors noticing what’s in bloom, even the smallest signs of colour and life.
  • Write a list of things you’re proud of from the past year, personal or quiet achievements included.
  • Place fresh flowers in your space as a symbol of growth and appreciation.
  • Light a candle and reflect on where you’re ready to show up more fully.
This is a moon for acknowledgement as much as intention.
Rituals during the Flower Moon often center on offerings and acts of thanks. Creating a flower mandala becomes a quiet meditation on balance and harmony, each bloom placed with intention as an expression of gratitude. Offering flowers to flowing water or natural spaces serves as a symbolic gesture of giving back, honoring the cycle of nourishment and return that sustains all living things.
The Flower Moon stands as a reminder of the delicate balance between giving and receiving.

🔵 May 31 The Blue Moon
The second Full Moon arrives at 4:45 AM EDT quieter, rarer, and far less understood. A Blue Moon in Sagittarius at 9°56'.
In the adventurous, truth-seeking sign of Sagittarius, this lunation amplifies themes of expansion, wisdom, freedom, and higher purpose.
A Blue Moon is not blue in colour. The name comes from old language meaning something uncommon, something that does not happen often. A second Full Moon within one calendar month is exactly that. Calendrical Blue Moons happen every 30 months on average. Two and a half years. Seasonal Blue Moons happen at a similar rate: about once every two to three years.
(Seasonal Blue Moons
The extra full Moon that occurs within an astronomical season. One season—defined by the dates of the solstices and equinoxes—typically has three full moons occurring within it. If a season instead has four full moons, then the third full moon (not the fourth) in the season may be called a Blue Moon.)
Calendrical Blue Moon
The second full moon to occur in a calendar month. It takes our Moon about 29.5 days to complete one cycle of phases (from new Moon to new Moon), so if a full Moon occurs on the first of a month, there will be a second full Moon—a Blue Moon—at the end of the month, too.
This won’t happen again until 2037, when we’ll have another Blue Moon in both January and March.
But in witchcraft and spirituality, this rarity holds weight.
The May Blue Moon marks a rare moment for amplified intention, completion, and conscious choice in spiritual practice.
Sagittarius is the archer, aiming toward the horizon — toward meaning, adventure, and truth. This Blue Moon illuminates your bigger picture: your philosophies, belief systems, long-distance connections, and quest for knowledge. It's a powerful moment to release limiting beliefs about what's possible and to embrace a more expansive vision of your life.
This is a Moon of completion, release, and closure. What began earlier in the month reaches its end. What expanded now asks to be refined, cleared, or let go. It carries a different energy less about growth, more about truth and finality.
And this one carries an additional layer.
It is the most distant Full Moon of 2026 a micromoon, occurring when the Moon is at its farthest point from Earth. It will appear slightly smaller, slightly dimmer, and energetically more subtle.
Not weaker. Just deeper.
While it shares the season’s fertile energy, its more distant presence gives it a quieter, more reflective quality, emphasizing awareness over intensity.
Spiritually, the Blue Moon invites reflection on what has grown beyond expectations and what is ready to be acknowledged or released. As a Micromoon, its influence encourages discernment rather than urgency, asking us to observe carefully before acting. It is a powerful time to review intentions set earlier in the spring and to recognize patterns that have reached fullness without forcing immediate change.
Quiet contemplation, journaling, or intention refinement under the Blue Moon’s light supports balance and conscious choice. This lunar moment reminds us that abundance carries responsibility, and that true fulfillment comes from honoring growth while remaining grounded, thoughtful, and intentional.
Sagittarius Blue Moon Crystals:
  • Amethyst — Sagittarius's traditional birthstone, amethyst connects to the higher mind and spiritual wisdom that this sign craves. Perfect for meditation under the Blue Moon.
  • Lapis Lazuli — The stone of truth and wisdom, lapis lazuli amplifies Sagittarius's quest for higher knowledge and authentic self-expression.
Sodalite — Supports philosophical thinking and intellectual expansion. Sodalite helps you articulate the truths revealed under this rare Blue Moon.
  • Kyanite — A stone of alignment and travel energy that resonates with Sagittarius's love of exploration, adventure, and spiritual discovery.
  • Citrine — Radiates the optimism and joy that Sagittarius embodies. Citrine amplifies abundance consciousness and helps you dream bigger.
🌑 Two Moons. One Arc.
Both Full Moons occur near apogee, the Moon’s farthest orbital point. Neither dominates the sky like a supermoon, but that is not their purpose.
This is not about size. This is about cycle. To have two Full Moons in one calendar month one at the very beginning and one at the very end is a complete energetic arc.
Opening.
Expansion.
Culmination.
Closure.
Witches have always worked with these thresholds.
The first Moon calls things in.
The second decides what stays.
Stand under both if you can.
Feel the difference.
Notice what grows between them.
Notice what no longer fits by the end.
Because May 2026 is not just rare.
It is a full cycle contained, concentrated, and impossible to ignore.
Both full moons in May are considered micro moons, meaning they occur when the Moon is at its farthest point from Earth in its orbit.
Which Moon calls to you more the one that begins, or the one that ends?
