Facing It!
There was a time when the stress from my career felt heavier than any paycheck could justify. The long hours, constant pressure, and endless responsibility followed me home every night. Slowly, I found myself withdrawing from the activities I once enjoyed. The stress became a weight I carried everywhere.
So I made a change.
I took a position that paid less money but gave me something I had not felt in years—peace of mind. I enjoyed helping people. I slept better. I smiled more. The stress disappeared almost overnight.
At first, it felt like launching a boat on a calm morning. The water was smooth, the sun was shining, and everything seemed effortless.
Then reality arrived.
The bills that had been built around my previous income did not disappear. The mortgage still wanted its payment. Insurance still came due. Groceries, fuel, utilities, and unexpected expenses kept showing up at the dock.
It reminded me of helping neighbors launch their boats. Pushing a boat off the trailer is usually the easy part. Everyone is smiling and excited to get on the water. But eventually the day ends, the fuel bill arrives, repairs are needed, and the boat must be loaded back onto the trailer. The launch is only one part of the journey.
Career changes can feel the same way. Escaping stress may be exactly what we need, but peace still comes with responsibilities. The challenge is finding a balance between financial stability and personal well-being.
Sometimes Facing It! means realizing that neither stress nor money should completely control the direction of our lives. Like launching a boat, success is not just getting off the trailer—it is learning how to navigate the entire lake.
