How do we run our race to win but run in a way that honors the values and integrity that make us who we are? How do we maintain grace in a world that requires us to try and dominate in order to win? Do we have to compromise our values in order to win? I believe the answer that question is, no, but it can be difficult to maintain our spiritual connection while competing and striving to win.
Which brings me to the heart and soul of grace & grit sports community. Grace is the freedom from striving. Striving to prove ourselves, striving to obtain, striving to become. Grace is the empowerment to live out of the I am that God has spoken over us and in us. That I am enough, I am holy, I am loved, I am forgiven. Grace is the launching pad to our lives that allows us to fearlessly go and live our lives in pursuit of greatness. When we exchange grace for striving, we start living from a place of the I am not. I am not enough, I am not good, I am not loved, and this causes us to live our lives trying to prove and become what we believe we are not. This is where pressure ensues, this is where mental breakdown happens and the love and joy of our sport ceases, this is where we compromise!
Grace gives us the grit to maintain our core identity, even when things are not going our way. That sports do not define us, sports are just a tool that helps teach us about ourselves and others, and sports will not last forever.
