🇺🇸🏆🇪🇺 Ryder Cup Week Throwback
In 1969 at Royal Birkdale, Jack Nicklaus faced Tony Jacklin on the 18th hole with the Ryder Cup on the line.
Nicklaus holed his par putt… Jacklin had a 2-footer to tie. Instead of making him putt, Nicklaus picked up the marker. Tie game. First Ryder Cup draw ever.
U.S. Captain Sam Snead was furious:
“We went over there to win, not to be good ol’ boys.”
Nicklaus never wavered:
“I didn’t think you’d miss it — but I wasn’t giving you the chance.”
That moment of grace inspired The Concession golf club and the Nicklaus-Jacklin Award.
👉 A reminder this week at Bethpage Black: sometimes sportsmanship is the real win.
What do you think. Should Jack have done that?
