Olá, bom dia ALEGRIA!
Almost half a million Brazilians live in Portugal. That’s one in three of all foreigners here, the biggest community by far.
Yesterday, 134,797 of them were registered to vote in Brazil’s presidential runoff from Portugal, with Lisbon the biggest overseas polling hub. The result: Lula re-elected for a fourth term.
So it’s the perfect moment to launch something new: Portugal Foreigners’ Forum Fact Sheets. One page, one community, with the numbers, the shared history, the people speaking up, and the words that trip us all up. Sheet Nº 1, Brazil, is now in the classroom. A language nugget to start: in Portugal you’ll take the autocarro to work; in Brazil, the ônibus. Same bus, same language, different words.
Over to you: Brazilian friends, what would you tell the new president about life in Portugal? And everyone else, which community should we cover next?
Abraço! 🤝
