Welcome to Gardening North!
Hi everyone — I’m so excited you’re here! This group was created for gardeners who want practical, real-world gardening advice for northern climates, shorter seasons, and the challenges that come with growing in our regions. Whether you’re brand new to gardening or have years of experience, you’re welcome here.
A little about me — I’m passionate about container design, plant care, propagation, and helping people create beautiful outdoor spaces that thrive through our seasons. With years of experience as a greenhouse grower heading propagation for a large nursery I developed a passion for plants and caring for them from the roots up. This group is a place to learn, share ideas, ask questions, and grow together.
- Today’s Topic: Start With Your Growing Conditions
One of the biggest gardening mistakes is choosing plants before understanding your space. Before planting anything this season, take a few minutes to observe:
How much sun does the area get? Does the soil stay dry or hold moisture? Is the area exposed to wind? Does it stay warmer or cooler than the rest of your yard?
Understanding your conditions first will save you time, money, and frustration — and help your plants thrive.
Over the next few weeks we’ll be covering topics like: • Beginner gardening basics • Soil health & fertilizing • Container gardening tips • Shade vs sun planting • Common plant mistakes • Overwintering plants • Houseplants • Pest problems • Seed starting • Propagation techniques (our upcoming paid course 🌱) • Easy plants to propagate at home • Seasonal gardening tips for northern climates
I’d love this to be an interactive community, so please introduce yourself below!
👇 Tell us: • Where you’re gardening from • Your biggest gardening challenge • A topic or question you’d love covered in this group
And if you know another plant lover who would enjoy this space, invite them in! 🌿
