I've been getting a few questions about reading comprehension, so I thought I would walk through a sample problem to explain my process! (Feel free to read the question and try it out yourself first)
1) READ THE QUESTION - I know this seems intuitive, but the very first thing you should do is try to understand what information you are looking for! This is super important to avoid giving yourself extra work. (Ex. Here, we are looking for the general idea behind the text)
2) Scan through the answer options and look for nuances that make answers OBJECTIVELY wrong. Rather than just looking for your answer, find what is wrong with every incorrect answer as you go through the options. (Ex. Starting off with A, you might be tempted to choose that answer since Francie's love of reading seems "quirky"/"unsusual", but notice how it calls the topic itself unusual --- this doesn't make sense, since the text doesn't ever mention reading being an unusual activity (and you can also infer that) - Incorrect. (B) Sure, Francie likes reading, but the text never mentions any other activities - Incorrect. (C) If you scan through the text, you'll notice how the author emphasizes how Francie is eager to read every book in the library; there is nothing objectively wrong with this answer! (C is correct) (D) The text doesn't really talk about a particular book that Francie has read - Incorrect
3) Lastly, if you get stuck, do not hesitate to use the highlight tool. If worst comes to worst, flag the question and keep moving through test!
Keep practicing, you've got this!
