It's NOT all in your head...
Anxiety might not be starting in your brain. It might be starting in your gut. 🧠➡️🦠
For years, anxiety has been treated like a purely psychological problem.
Think therapy, meditation, mindset work. And while those can absolutely help… many people still feel stuck.
Here’s why.
Your gut and brain are in constant communication through the gut-brain axis. In fact, about 90–95% of serotonin is produced in the gut, and the microbiome influences key calming neurotransmitters like GABA and dopamine.
When the gut is inflamed or out of balance, it can trigger the stress response, drive inflammation, and send constant “danger signals” to the brain. The result?
Racing thoughts. Poor sleep. That uneasy feeling you can’t quite explain.
In functional medicine, we see this all the time. When you repair the gut, anxiety often improves dramatically because the brain finally stops receiving those inflammatory signals.
This is why gut work is so powerful. It’s not just digestion… it’s mental health physiology.
I’m thinking about adding an IBS-to-Painless training inside the courses area where we walk through the functional medicine strategies for calming gut inflammation, restoring the microbiome, and improving symptoms that often show up as both digestive issues and anxiety.
If that’s something you’d want access to, drop a comment or let me know. I’m considering building it out for you. 👇
