When I started this business, I had a very kind Dealer school me and give me a map of the wind zone for North Carolina. I hope this information is helpful for you, it was and still is.
Mobile homes are designed and constructed to withstand different wind pressures based on their location. Regulated by the HUD Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards.
Wind Zone 1: This zone generally covers most of the interior of the U.S. where hurricanes are not as common. Homes built for Zone 1 should be able to resist basic winds about 70 MPH speeds.
Wind Zone 2: This zone is designated for areas that are hurricane prone and can experience wind speeds of up to 100 mph.
Wind Zone 3: Along the coast of certain states, homes must be built to withstand winds of up to 110 mph because hurricane-force winds are more frequent in these areas.
It’s important to note that homes built for lower zones cannot reside in higher zones. However, Zone 3 can be placed in Zone 1 and 2 areas and Zone 2 homes can go in Zone 1 areas. Local government may set even more stringent standards.
