3 Mixing Moves/ Habits I learned
1- GAIN MATCH = You applied a plugin. def gain match.
Bypass, See if it made a difference or not. you cant tell if you dont gain match and bypass.
2- LEVEL BLENDING.. Always Start with -inf and bring it up slightly.
Decide when to stop.
If you start with a high DB and try to lower it down you'll like the louder version due to your perception of loudness. if you start with -inf db you will like it only when it's actually good enough.
3- DEFINE THE PROBLEM. = Before you start applying any processing, define what the problem is. Verbally define it. Not just in your head.
Define it with a word. Do you need clarity? Do you need presence? Do you see freq clashing? Just define it with a mixing term. If you don't know these terms then look and review these mixing terms.
Off course I don't have any of these habits yet , trying to make this a habit.
But these are the typical moves mixing engineers do each time. without noticing. They naturally do it that s why they don't mention it much when showing to someone else guys . So if you are a producer like me and transitioning to mixing , these habits will save you time.
Cheerz.
