Troubleshooting technique and challenge
🔥 Troubleshooting Tip: “Follow the Water, Not the Guess” 🔥
Most people troubleshoot irrigation systems backwards… they start guessing parts.
Pros don’t guess — we follow the water.
Here’s a simple technique ANYONE can use (homeowner or tech):
💧 Step 1: Start at the Controller
Is the zone turning on?
Do you hear the click?
If no → electrical issue (timer, wiring, solenoid)
💧 Step 2: Go to the Valve
Turn it on manually
Do you get water flow?
👉 If NO water:
Could be clogged valve
Could be mainline shut off
Could be bad solenoid
👉 If YES water:
Problem is NOT the valve… move down the line
💧 Step 3: Check the First Head
Is it popping up?
Weak pressure? No spray?
👉 This is where most problems show themselves:
Broken head
Clogged nozzle
Line break nearby
💧 Step 4: Walk the Zone
Dry spots = blockage or break BEFORE that point
Flooding = break AT that point
💡 Simple but powerful rule: 👉 Water problems are LOCATION problems
👉 Find where the water STOPS or ESCAPES
🚨 Challenge: Next time you see a bad zone, don’t touch a single part for 2 minutes.
Just follow the water path and COMMENT what you find 👇
Let’s see who can diagnose it fastest without guessing.
