When did compost bins become a thing?
As a child, I remember my dad always had a "pit" in the veggie patch. Every evening one of us took a bowl of vegetable peelings down the garden and threw the contents in the pit. When it got to about 4 inches from the top, he would cover it up with soil taken from a new "pit" and so it would go on. So, pit or compost bin, which is best?
