The difference between panini products
Hobby, Retail, Hanger, Blaster, Fatpack, FOTL
What are these differences?
An important part of the card-collecting world is knowing the ins and outs of packs and boxes, as well as what are the differences between the various packs you see. Programs are split between hobby and retail releases. Some programs are bigger releases and include both, while others are reserved for one or the other.
Hobby variations feature the more exclusive cards, while retail variations are more widely available. All hobby configurations can be obtained online or in hobby shops, while the retail configurations are available online and wherever cards are sold.
Hobby Boxes
Hobby boxes vary from retail releases with different parallels, inserts and/or signatures. They also frequently feature more cards, plus a guaranteed quantity of special cards, compared to retail. Each box contains a certain number of packs, from as low as one pack all the way up to 15-plus.
Hobby FOTL Boxes
First Off The Line, or FOTL, is the first run of a particular release, meaning it hits shelves earlier than hobby. The FOTL boxes have the same quantity of content as the standard hobby box, but you're guaranteed to find exclusive FOTL-specific parallels.
Retail Blaster Boxes
Retail blaster boxes are an accessible way for collectors to grow their collection. Typically at a lower price point and easier to find than hobby boxes, retail blasters are great for beginners and still feature a chance of pulling a gem. These can feature retail-exclusive parallels that can't be found in hobby.
Retail Hanger Packs
The name explains exactly how to find this variation of retail releases. These packs and boxes hang on aisles and in store checkout lines. They are the most common form of retail releases.
Retail Fatpack Packs
Another situation where the name speaks for itself. Fatpacks are stout packets that feature more cards than a hanger pack and nearly any other type of pack. These can contain upwards of 30 cards in one pack
