"I go out to cry"
I keep seeing online posts and comments from teachers who go outside during recess to cry.
Or write "I cannot sleep anymore" and "I have no energy."
My grandfather, aunt and uncle were teachers. My parents gave their whole working lives to education. I taught university programmes myself, and some of my closest friends and clients are educators.
Those confessions are not complaints. I see them as distress signals from nervous systems that have been in overdrive for too long.
When you spend seven or eight hours a day managing the emotions, behaviour, and wellbeing of thirty other human beings, your nervous system pays a high price.
You cannot just "think" your way out of exhaustion and agitation. When a nervous system is fried, the body has to physically calm down first.
I have been using practices like havening, qigong grounding, breathwork, tapping, and specific Bowen moves for many years – they bypass the mind and speak directly to the physical weight teachers and caregivers are carrying.
In February, I came across SuperPatch – a tool I had not been looking for. I spent a month reading the science behind it before I tried it. What I observe in my own physical and mental health, and in people close to me, makes it hard to ignore.
If you are a teacher, or you simply recognise exhaustion and high agitation in yourself, let's explore how SuperPatch can be added to your current toolkit and practices.
I have observations on several of the patches how they have been calming my mind and my body. I use Assure for physical comfort – grounded and centred, Peace brings me calm (as per reports, it balances cortisol). I use REM for very deep sleep and a sense of feeling restored. I am yet to try Zen, it is planned for my next order.
Happy to have a chat in the comments or in my DMs - I read and respond to everyone.
(In the photo: me in front of first graders – you see also Max my younger son, speaking about emotions and the power of our words, seven years ago.)
