Daily Bread 9/6/24
Happy Friday y'all! I hope it is a day prosperity and the start of a restful and relaxing weekend.
I wanted to share that today in my quiet time I started reading in James. I have read James before, but I am so excited to start again. No matter how many times I read a certain passage, I always find more to reflect on and even learn new ways to look at God's word.
So yeah, James Chapter 1! A lot of what I got from this first chapter is the idea of being able to resist temptation and in that ability to resist, we produce steadfastness. It is our own desires that cause sin.
ESV James 1:14-15 "But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death."
Another main idea is hearing and therefore doing. We must act upon our faith. Although we are saved by grace through faith and not actions, it is our actions that back up our faith. I think of it as a way to almost prove and show your faith.
ESV James 1:22-24 "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like."
Would love to hear y'all's thoughts and input!
