Just recorded a new video for you all, and I’m diving into a topic that I think some of you need to hear (even if it stings a little).
A lot of music producers say, “I want a career in music, but I hate social media. I don’t want to post, I don’t want to engage, I don’t want to be a part of that circus.”
And honestly, I get it - social media isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and it can feel super lame to put yourself out there so publicly.
But here’s the thing: if you’re not willing to put yourself out there ONLINE, what are you doing OFFLINE?
If you’re actually serious about making music your career, you need to take action - some kind of action.
I’m not saying you have to become the next TikTok super-influencer, but you do have to do something to get yourself and your music out there.
If social media isn’t for you, that’s cool, but then let me ask you this: What are you doing to be heard in the real world?
Are you printing out flyers with a QR code linking to your tracks and sticking them up around your town?
Are you organizing events or gigs and giving out physical merch?
Are you networking with local artists and venues?
You can’t just sit around and wait for a career to magically fall into your lap.
Here’s the cold truth: if you’re not doing anything, then you’ve made a choice - to stay exactly where you are.
And that’s fine if you’re okay with that, but if you’re not, it’s time to wake up.
Maybe it’s time to consider a combo approach: a little online, a little offline. Start small, but start somewhere.
It might be worth getting over that fear or hatred of social media if it means serving your bigger goal - making great music and getting it out there.
Because at the end of the day, no one’s going to know you or your music if you don’t do something to make sure they hear it.
So here’s your friendly kick up the ass: Don’t just sit around talking about what you don’t want to do.
Focus on what you will do to make your music career happen. You in?
