This was it.
I came to my first New York Salsa Congress 2003 still dancing on1. That same weekend, I learned how to dance on2 social dancing. My train of thought was simple: if on1 is 1-2-3 / 5-6-7β¦ then on2 must be 2-3-4 / 6-7-8.
But this performance⦠this was the moment.
The Eddie Torres dancers came out and absolutely killed it.
And thenβboomβhe walked out with his wife, Maria.
The Mambo King himself.
Little did I know that he would become my mentor, and I would become his biggest fan until this very day.
The moment I saw my maestro dancing, I fell in love with mambo.
I was crying in the middle of the show and I didnβt even know why.
I made myself a promise:
In 10 years, I will be dancing alongside him.
Four months later, my dream came true.
I became an Eddie Torres dancer.
And in that moment, I realized something important:
We must dream big.
If you can see it, you can do it.
The βhowβ is not important β the goal is.
